The museum ‘House of Terror’ is in the very same building that host two of Hungarys most dark eras. 1944 the Nazis used this place as headquarter and after the war the, as the museum called it the ‘notorious communist terror organisation’ AVO was using this house as headquarter till 1956. No matter what your political opinion is this museum is a document of what can happen when people stop acting like humans. History is always written by the winners of the war and this is a in my opinion a massive propaganda of how bad communism was for the people of Hungary in that time. Visit and make your own opinion about this place. I heard that this museum have got some strong critics since it was opened by right wing government. They say it’s a way to get easy points and frighten the Hungarians for voting ‘left oriented’. As so often, the coin has two sides. Neverthless it was a house of terror indeed. I think it’s worth a visit no matter what. Even if it felt rather tasteless seeing how they wanted to make money on souvenirs with USSR and Nazi motives on shirts and all sorts of stuff.
